“The time is always right to do what is right.”

Attending the 3rd Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Inspirational Weekend in Everett, WA, with LifeWise CEO Kristin Meadows, I heard these often-quoted words yet again. First voiced at a 1967 speech in Chicago, Dr. King’s words are still inspiring and more relevant than ever.

During the weekend’s Inspirational Breakfast, we heard from keynote speaker, Eric M. Bailey, a communication expert, and the best-selling author of The Cure for Stupidity: Using Brain Science to Explain Irrational Behavior. Mr. Bailey spoke eloquently about how to fight divisiveness in our community, which starts by welcoming everyone into the conversation. Everyone lives, feels, and experiences the world differently. When other voices are involved in your conversation, there’s a prime opportunity—a chance to give someone else the floor so you can listen and learn. That’s how we grow—from learning about experiences other than our own.

Congratulations to the YMCA of Snohomish County for hosting an impactful four-day event. We join with the “Y” in honoring Dr. King’s legacy and teachings. We feel synergy with his commitment to equity and inclusion.
